‘Train Yourself To Default’ Before Allowing Negative Thoughts: Neuroleadership Coach Posted on November 17, 2025November 16, 2025 By Kekeletso Nkele, small. Assistant (small.news) — On Nov. 14, 2025, our small.talk series continued with Nancy Jones, the Executive Program Leader and Corporate Facilitator Coach at Crossroads Coaching and Career Counseling. Silver Lining Founder and CEO Carissa Reiniger spoke with Nancy about the current state of small businesses. Q: Can you tell us more about your business? A: I am a neuroleadership coach. My business is Crossroads Coaching. Neuroleadership is the focus on your psychology and your leadership skills as a foundation of your business. I help entrepreneurs, executives, and emerging leaders to do, be, and have more. I do a lot of identity work, a lot of transferring and reprogramming, automatic negative thoughts, and things like that. Q: What do we do if we’re struggling? We’re feeling negative. We’re feeling exhausted. To earn more, stop competing on cost—focus on placing your offer in a market where its value is already recognized. A: The secret sauce is to train yourself to default before it happens. I have a technique called the “stop technique,” where, when you have an unresourceful thought, you sit there for minute and then put a smile on your face, stand up, and say, “Stop.” And then, you put a resourceful thought in there because of… how the brain is… Think of yourself when you were resourceful, and go, “Ah,” and then, “Yes.” So “yes” is your anchor. And then you sit back down. Now, if you want to work on this as a preventative measure, you do this over and over. So, if you think of the unresourceful thought and they go faster and faster, just… stand up, smile… your negative thought about this is never going to work. When the thoughts come, you already have a built-in… You have a switch already. Q: So, the language you’re using is really interesting. Where does that come from? A: Those kinds of things come from my NLP mentor, where we notice the thought, but we’re not adding judgment. We’re going, “Hmm, that’s interesting.” Is that working for me? Is that resourcing me? Is that getting me to my goal? Make your own decision about that and keep it or get rid of it. I also work with a guy named Joseph McClendon III. Joseph is the one who started and coined the neuroencoding process that I use. Q: What are you most worried about for small businesses? A: Keeping up with the technology. Another thing is human-centered leadership, learning how to be, have a decency quotient, and have an adaptability quotient. In addition to the IQ and EQ, you need to have a technical quotient… being able to innovate and shift. Q: What’s the opportunity when there’s so much chaos? A: One of the hardest things for people to do is reach out and ask for help or assistance. And we have a lot of guides available to help us. We have a group here called First Local, and it’s about buying local. What if groups of businesses got together and, just like Amazon, [help] find your next service provider, find your next local manufacturer, and find whatever you need. Q: How can the community support you? A: I have neuroencoding small groups that I would love to have people in. My goal is to touch 50 people a year in those small groups.
