Malaysia’s Largest Bank Supports SMEs in Its West Asia Conflict Response Posted on June 15, 2026June 12, 2026 By Kekeletso Nkele, small.news Assistant (small.news) — Maybank has strengthened its support for small and medium enterprises affected by the ongoing West Asia conflict, introducing targeted financing solutions, repayment assistance, and access to Bank Negara Malaysia’s Stabilization Relief Facility, reports The Star. Before rolling out these measures, the bank convened an industry engagement and dialogue session with a broad cross-section of business associations including SAMENTA, the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia, the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, the KL and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia to gain a clearer picture of how the conflict is affecting businesses and to ensure that available relief measures are effectively communicated to those who need them. Fast Financing When It Matters Most At the center of the bank’s response is a new rapid financing program. The Maybank SME Perkasa program, launched on May 12, is designed specifically for businesses affected by the conflict and offers financing disbursement within 48 hours of full document execution, a deliberately accelerated timeline that reflects the urgency many small businesses are facing as the conflict continues to weigh on supply chains, trade flows, and operating costs. Repayment Relief for Existing Customers For businesses already banking with Maybank that are struggling to meet their current obligations, the bank has also opened a repayment assistance pathway. Existing SME customers can apply for support under the Financial Relief Scheme, with Maybank committing to provide an outcome within five working days. The bank said it has also begun proactive outreach to SME customers affected by the conflict to discuss available options, and is urging businesses under financial pressure to seek assistance early rather than waiting until their situation deteriorates further. Access to Bank Negara’s Stabilization Relief Facility Complementing its own programs, Maybank is also facilitating SME applications for Bank Negara Malaysia’s Stabilization Relief Facility. The SRF offers financing of up to RM750,000 for up to five years at a maximum rate of 3.75 % per annum, inclusive of guarantee fees. More Than a Bank Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, Maybank’s Group CEO of Community Financial Services, framed the bank’s response in terms that go beyond transactional banking. He said Malaysian SMEs are more than numbers that contribute to the economy; they are the key drivers of Malaysia’s real economy and the communities they serve, and that, as Malaysia’s largest bank, Maybank has a responsibility to be present beyond banking services by listening, understanding evolving business needs in the context of the conflict, and ensuring that the solutions offered are both accessible and meaningful. The interventions also fit within Maybank’s broader strategic agenda. Under its ROAR30 strategy, the bank aims to mobilize RM100 billion to support high-impact, high-value industries across the country, with the current SME relief package serving as a concrete expression of that commitment amid heightened economic uncertainty.
